About the Engine Safety Unit AL
The Engine Safety Unit AL (ESU-AL02) gives a clear, at-a-glance view of engine health. Its front panel shows six indications: circuit fuse fail, battery charge, emergency stop, low lube oil pressure (LLOP), high water temperature (HWT) and low fuel. When a fault appears, its lamp lights up, so the operator knows exactly why the engine stopped or needs attention.
Behind the panel, heavy brass stud terminals carry the solenoid, fuse and battery connections, and a plug-in terminal block takes the sensor wiring for temperature, oil pressure and other inputs. A built-in charge lamp, LOP bypass timer and stop timer for ES (Energised to Stop) solenoids are included, and the relay contact handles up to 70 Amps. It works on 8 to 35 V DC.

What the technical words mean
- LOP / LLOP
- Low (Lube) Oil Pressure. If oil pressure falls too low, the engine is shut down before its bearings are damaged.
- LOP bypass timer
- Oil pressure is low for a few seconds while an engine starts. This timer ignores low oil pressure during that time so the engine is not stopped by mistake.
- HWT / HCT
- High Water Temperature or High Coolant Temperature. The engine is stopped if it overheats.
- ES solenoid
- Energised to Stop. A fuel solenoid that must be powered to stop the engine. The stop timer keeps it powered long enough for the engine to come to rest.
- Charge lamp
- A lamp that shows whether the engine’s battery charging alternator is working.
- Fuse fail indication
- Warns when the fuse protecting the safety circuit has blown, so the engine is never left running without protection.
