About the W Point HR Meter
The W Point HR Meter shows engine running hours and engine RPM without the need for a separate speed sensor. It reads speed from the W-point of the battery charging alternator, which produces an AC signal (8 to 24 V AC) that rises and falls with engine speed. This makes it simple to fit on engines that have no magnetic pickup.
The meter is field settable, so it can be matched to the engine on site, and it has a built-in over speed and under speed relay that can shut down or alarm when the engine runs outside safe limits. It works on 8 to 30 V DC and measures 72 × 72 × 106 mm.

What the technical words mean
- MPU
- Magnetic Pickup. A speed sensor that counts flywheel teeth to measure engine RPM.
- W-point
- An AC output on the battery charging alternator whose frequency follows engine speed. It can be used to read RPM without a magnetic pickup.
- Charge lamp
- A lamp that shows whether the engine’s battery charging alternator is working.
- Over speed / under speed
- Protection that acts when the engine runs faster or slower than its safe speed range.
